The project ILIAS.nrw supports universities in North Rhine-Westphalia in further developing and using the learning platform ILIAS. It coordinates three sub-projects: Communication and Networking, Technology and Development, and Information and Support. The goal is to improve the usability, accessibility, and data protection-compliant use of ILIAS. Universities benefit from centralized support services, joint developments, and a strong community.

Ausführliche Beschreibung

Service: ILIAS.nrw – Support for university service centers
ILIAS.nrw provides a comprehensive platform with specialized support services for service centers at universities in North Rhine-Westphalia that use ILIAS as a learning management system. A central service is the "Toolbox »Digital Accessibility«", which offers practical assistance in designing accessible courses. It includes checklists for creating accessible documents (e.g., in Word or PDF), guidelines for using media, and specific instructions for the ILIAS page editor. In addition, the toolbox provides concrete information on BITV tests, sign language videos, and simple language to make e-learning offerings accessible to all students—including people with disabilities. The toolbox is not only available as an online resource but can also be downloaded as an export file for ILIAS 8 and ILIAS 9 and directly imported into the institution’s own ILIAS instance.
The added value of this service lies in significantly relieving the workload of service centers. Instead of developing complex guidelines independently, they can directly use the toolbox’s resources, ensuring consistent and high-quality accessibility standards across institutions.
