git.nrw is a central service providing universities in North Rhine-Westphalia with a shared, university-wide GitLab instance. GitLab is a platform that supports developers and researchers in writing, testing, managing, and collaboratively working on software projects – similar to GitHub, but specifically tailored for the higher education landscape in NRW. With git.nrw, universities gain a central, secure, and centrally managed environment where they can jointly work on code, documents, research data, or teaching materials. The platform supports modern development practices such as Continuous Integration, version control, and team collaboration – ideal for research projects, teaching in computer science or engineering disciplines, but also for administrative processes.
