Sciebo is a non-commercial cloud storage service specifically developed for universities in North Rhine-Westphalia. It enables students, researchers, and university staff to securely and easily store, synchronize, and collaboratively work on their data from studies, teaching, and research. With at least 30 GB of free storage space per user, Sciebo is one of the largest cloud services in Germany—particularly suited for academic purposes. University staff can additionally unlock up to 500 GB of extra storage. The service is based on the open-source platform Nextcloud and is operated by the University of Münster, ensuring compliance with strict German data protection regulations. All servers are located exclusively within North Rhine-Westphalia, enhancing data security and data sovereignty.
A key advantage of Sciebo is seamless synchronization across various devices: whether on a laptop, smartphone, or tablet— all files are always up to date and accessible worldwide. In addition, desktop applications specifically developed for Sciebo are available.
